I Travel On
for SAB choir
(2021)

I Travel On was composed in 2021 for a woman who lost her spouse after many years of marriage. The lyrics are in the spouse's voice telling his wife not to mourn his death but to carry on. The lyrics have been adapted from the poem, "To Those Whom I Love". (Anonymous)

Lyrics:

When I am gone, please let me go

I have so many things to see,

Although you mustn't shed too many tears, I plea

But thankful for those years you've given me.

I have my love, and you can guess

How much you've given me in happiness

I thank you for the love that you have shown

But now it's time I traveled on.

I travel on, I travel on,

But my love for you will carry on

I travel on, I travel on alone

I won't be far away.

So grieve a while, grief if you must

Then let your grief be comforted by trust

It's only for a while that we must part

So treasure memories in you heart

I travel on, I travel on,

But my love for you will carry on

I travel on, and when you come this way alone,

I'll greet you and say, "Welcome home".
