I have been an elementary/high school/college horn instructor for over 35 years and presently teach in my home located in Alexandria, VA. I provide a professional and nurturing environment to help students advance their musical skills and pursue their dreams in the performing arts.
My basic philosophy is to encourage progress and advancement through positive reinforcement. I am comfortable teaching at all levels, from beginners to advanced students, including adults. I strongly emphasize reading skills, as well as knowledge of music theory. These analytical skills enhance the student's ability to comprehend the music and play with ease and confidence. I also work with students to prepare for various auditions such as colleges, summer music camps, and All-State Band and Orchestras. At the end of the school year, the students perform in a studio recital for family and friends.
I also offer Skype lessons as well. This is especially advantageous for students who do not have access to private lesson instructors in their area or would like to have a different perspective from another teacher.
My lesson schedule is fairly flexible throughout the school year. Usually, the lessons are once a week but I am willing to work with the parent and student to figure out a schedule that works for all of us.
New students are accepted throughout the school year. Please contact me to inquire about lesson availability and pricing. I am also available for master classes, sectionals, and clinics at your school. Please contact me for more information.
